Under the Hood: What They’ve Done to the 2019 Ram

When it comes to the light duty truck category, competition is fierce but innovation has slowed. Popular manufacturers have near perfected the efficiency, power, and capability every lightweight truck needs. Don’t be fooled, however, because not every truck lives up to these expectations.

The 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 lives up to all of them without hesitation.

A New Era of RAM Truck

The next generation of Ram 1500 pickup trucks is likely to have some lighter materials accompanying the usual steel, to increase the fuel economy and load capacity. Certain models may gain cab space and interior amenities, as well. Based on photos of the suspected test model, the massive cab possibly indicates the introduction of the Mega Cab to the 1500 series.

While details of this truck have been buzzing since 2017, it is finally scheduled to go into production in 2018 as a 2019 model.

Better aerodynamics are a focus for this model, coming primarily through shorter and sleeker grilles and downsized tailgate branding. But, yes, the “big rig” styling will not be forgotten.

Under the hood is where you’ll find six or eight-speed automatic transmissions. On top of that, this will be the first Ram with a direct injection gasoline V6. A potential Pentastar upgrade with this should boost power to 310-320 hp, and increase economy and low end torque.

It’s not confirmed but 48 volt electrical systems may be used across the board, or just in a hybrid variant.

According to Ram representatives, 75% of their truck sales have included a Hemi powertrain, so it’s safe to assume that the next-generation 1500 will bring the 5.7-liter V-8 with it. Rumors suggest that this could be the first Ram to feature a V-6 with direct injection for more power and better fuel economy.

How to Get Your Hands On It

The new Ram 1500 is to make its debut soon. At launch, pricing should be similar to today’s, and revamped heavy-duty models using corresponding styling cues are expected to arrive soon afterward.

With the new release, current and older models of the Ram will be seeing flash sales and high incentives to make room for the new models.

But, this model isn’t the only one being talked about this year. Many of the upgrades to classic Dodge Rams are bringing this truck closer and closer to the competition. Explore your options to learn more.
