When is Amazon Prime Day?

Typically, Amazon Prime Day falls on the anniversary of Amazon’s founding: July 15¹.

However, in 2020, things are changing. For the first time since 2015, Prime Day didn’t happen on July 15 – and there’s no official word from Amazon on when the sale holiday will occur.

Reports indicate that Prime Day 2020 will likely occur in October, ahead of the holiday shopping season². Because Amazon’s Prime Day deals lasted for 48 hours in 2019, it’s expected that the 2020 event will also offer deals for at least two full days.

Keep an eye out for news about Prime Day 2020 so you know when to start shopping for deals.

Watch These Smart Home Devices for Deals

If you’re in the market for smart home gadgets, you’ll find plenty on sale when Prime Day happens. In years past, Amazon’s very own smart home devices – including the Echo Dot, Fire TV Stick, and Alexa Voice Remote – were among the best-selling devices³. Additionally, Amazon’s Ring and Blink smart home product lines tend to see significant discounts on Prime Day, making them huge sellers⁴.

Make sure to check out all of Amazon’s own smart home gadgets in preparation for Prime Day. In 2019, the Echo Dot was sold for just $22 and the Echo was priced at $50, the products’ lowest prices ever⁵. The Ring Video Doorbell 2 saw a steep discount, marked down to $99. And Amazon Smart Plugs were sold for as little as $5.

But deals can also be found beyond the Amazon product line. Prime Day is also a great day to shop for a wide selection of different smart home items. The following products are expected to see discounts for Prime Day 2020, so make sure to keep your eye on their prices.

SimpliSafe 10-Piece Wireless Home Security System

Usually priced at $549.99, this smart SimpliSafe home security system is anticipated to see a steep discount on Prime Day⁶. In 2019, it was priced at just $385 on Prime Day. And that means you can potentially get a whole-home security system with smart, innovative features for much, much less.

Arlo Pro 3-Camera Wireless Home Security Kit

Arlo home security gadgets are popular products, and the Arlo Pro 3-Camera Wireless Home Security Kit offers a comprehensive option. You can place smart home security cameras around your home, and there’s a hub to tie it all together. Usually sold for $579.99, last year’s Prime Day saw this kit fall to $331.99⁷. It could see a similar price cut this year.

iRobot Roomba 891

iRobot’s Roomba vacuums are among the most popular smart robotic vacuum cleaners – but they’re quite expensive. Normally priced at $449.99, the iRobot Roomba 891 is expected to go on sale for Prime Day 2020⁸. And it’ll likely be far more affordable; in 2019, this vacuum was marked down to $299.99. That’s a great discount for cool features like smartphone app control and voice commands with Amazon Alexa.

Kasa Smart Plugs and Switches

You can swap out your traditional electrical outlets and light switches for smart home upgrades with Kasa’s line of smart plugs and switches. And on Prime Day, you could get these gadgets for a lot less. Normally priced at $54.99 for a three-pack of Kasa Smart Plugs and $44.99 for a Kasa Smart Wi-Fi 3-Way Light Switch, these products saw strong discounts in 2019⁹. They were marked down to just $39.99 each. Kasa smart home gadgets will likely see similar deals in 2020.

What to Expect on Prime Day

To prepare for Prime Day 2020, you’ll want to head to Amazon in the days leading up to the actual sale event. In years past, Amazon has started offering Prime Day deals as a warm up for the big day. And in 2019, Amazon actually offered all of its best deals for a full 48 hours. That means you might have a little more time to shop and search for steep discounts.

However, the hottest items and the best deals sell out fast on Prime Day. So, you’ll want to be prepared by doing your research ahead of time. Before Amazon Prime Day arrives, search online to see what deals are anticipated or announced. You can compare these discounts and deals with other retailers’ prices. And keep in mind that other retailers will often host competing sales on Prime Day. If you take the time to search before buying, you’ll be sure to get the lowest prices on the best Prime Day products.
