4 minute read

By Christopher Brown

There are plenty of safe, efficient, and good looking SUVs to choose from. The problem is how much it costs to actually own one. The Kelley Blue Book new-vehicle ATP increased to $48,301 in August of 2022 — and costs aren’t expected to be decreasing anytime soon.¹ Perhaps a more wallet-friendly alternative to financing is leasing. You could find brand new SUVs to lease for under $200 a month with a search online.

Leasing a vehicle gives you the freedom to drive a new model every couple years, without having to commit to ownership. Search online to compare the many models available to lease right now.

Here are some of the best SUVs you can lease now for under $200 monthly.

2023 Hyundai Venue

The Deal:

The 2022 version of the Hyundai Venue was a resounding success and this year looks to be more of the same. The Venue is a fantastic entry-level SUV at a great price point. What it lacks in power and off-road capabilities, it makes up for in storage and cabin space. Making it the ideal choice for those that prioritize practicality over performance.

This year’s Venue gets 29 mpg on the city streets and 33 mpg on the highway. Its 1.6L engine generates 121 HP, and the whole car benefits from a 60,000 mile, bumper to bumper warranty. It’s a quality vehicle built to tackle the weekend and the workday. Consider taking one for a test drive or reading more online to get a better feel for the 2023 Hyundai Venue.

2023 Hyundai Kona

The Deal:

Fun to drive and loaded with tech, the 2023 Hyundai Kona is a deal at any price point. The $209 monthly lease price tag may exceed the ceiling mentioned above, but we would be doing your SUV search a real disservice by omitting such a great vehicle for a $9 discrepancy.

This year’s Kona comes with a 2.0-liter engine capable of 147 HP. It’s fuel efficient too, boasting an estimated 30 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. The SUV comes standard with an Android Auto/Apple CarPlay ready 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, remote keyless entry, along with a number of impressive upgrade options.

2022 Chevrolet Trax

The Deal:

The 2022 edition of the Chevrolet Trax gets a notable horsepower bump over its 2021 predecessor. But an extra 15 HP is just about the only thing separating the two models. That’s not a bad thing either. The 2022 Chevrolet Trax is easy to drive, and benefits from a great infotainment system.

There’s a reason you see Chevrolet Trax models all over the place. It’s a budget friendly, ultra-safe, family-friendly vehicle that seats 5 and boasts some decent tech. It’s not the best subcompact ever made, but it’s a serviceable SUV that checks off a lot of boxes for families on a budget.

2022 Buick Encore

The Deal:

Buick didn’t reinvent the wheel, or the Encore in 2022. This year’s version looks strikingly familiar to the Buick Encores we’ve come to know and love. Well, that’s because, it sort of is. The 2022 Buick Encore hasn’t enjoyed a lot of upgrades over the years, but it remains a serviceable, family-oriented SUV with a premium cabin for the price.

This year’s Encore gets an updated engine, and the infotainment system is easy and fun to use. The sub-compact also has available blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, and collision warning. Though those features are protected behind Buick’s premium paywall.

2022 Mazda CX-30

The Deal:

Mazdas are notoriously fun to drive and the 2022 Mazda CX-30 doesn’t break the mold here. As you’d expect, the luxurious-looking SUV rides smoothly and handles well. Its 2.5-liter four-cylinder base engine boasts 186 horsepower, with 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.

Sadly, this ride’s monthly lease rate is a touch over the $200 mark, but it does require less of a down payment. The 2022 Mazda CX-30 is also widely regarded as the best in its class, and we feel the extra $29 a month is indeed a great value. But don’t take our word for it. Call your local dealer and take it for a test drive yourself.
